She’s been blonde, brunette and even pink — so what inspired Rachel McAdams to take the plunge and become a redhead?
“This was the only color left!” she told PEOPLE, laughing, at the L.A. premiere of To The Wonder.
But seriously: “My mother is a redhead, so I thought maybe I could pull it off,” she shared. “If she could do it, maybe I could do it. I don’t know, I just thought that it would be fun.”
And McAdams is already making the most of her sexy new hue, piling it into a high, shiny topknot for Tuesday’s premiere. Dove stylist Mark Townsend created the “young, cool and super modern” look for the star by spraying her hair with Dove’s Refresh+Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo for texture and working in a dime-size amount of the line’s Color Care Leave on Conditioner for shine.
He then pulled her hair into a ponytail, sprayed it with Sally Hershberger Genius Spray Wax and twisted the tail into a knot, tucking the ends under and securing with two bobby pins that had been sprayed with dry shampoo. A black satin ribbon finished the look.

Things are over for Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen.
The couple, who first met when they costarred in Woody Allen’s 2010 romantic comedy Midnight in Paris, recently ended their two-year relationship, PEOPLE confirms.
The pair acknowledged their budding romance in 2011, after appearing arm-in-arm at that year’s Cannes Film Festival and being spotted together throughout the fall of 2010.
McAdams, 34, will next star in About Time, about a man who travels back in time. She turned heads when photos from the set showed her in full-on baby bump mode, wearing a pregnancy prosthesis.
British actor Sheen, 45, was previously in a long-term relationship with actress Kate Beckinsale, and is the father of their daughter, Lily, 14. McAdams had been previously involved with Ryan Gosling.
Reps could not be reached for comment.

This site experienced a crash a few weeks ago that messed up our databases. We were only able to revert back to a 2011 backup of this site so I’ll have to reupload all 2011-2012 pictures of Rachel and we lost all updates from last year until now. I will be working hard to get all the missing pictures up and in the gallery as soon as possible.
Please be patient and sorry for any inconvenience! ~Nat

RACHEL McADAMS, a 31-year-old Canadian actress who lives here in a house she shares with her younger brother when she’s not off shooting movies, has long held a green card. She can usually cross the border to the United States easily, but a few years ago an American customs officer recognized Ms. McAdams and gave her a hard time.
“She kicked me to the curb,” recalled Ms. McAdams, a slight, 5-foot-4 blonde. “She was tough. I had pink hair at the time, and she said, ‘Don’t dye your hair that color, and don’t make any more stupid movies.’ ”

Turns out no one should be surprised that Rachel McAdams has been getting cozy with her costar from the upcoming film Midnight in Paris.
The Canadian actress, 33, has been out and about with Welsh actor Michael Sheen, with the pair spotted engaging in serious PDA recently.
And, McAdams tells November’s InStyle magazine, dating an actor makes perfect sense.
“I usually take away one close relationship from every job, some romantic, some not,” she tells the magazine, which hits newsstands Friday. She previously dated Ryan Gosling, her costar in The Notebook, and actor Josh Lucas.
Still, she says, she doesn’t have a type when it comes to men. “I don’t think so, although I guess everyone says that, right? I like to be surprised by people, and I find that makes life a lot easier too, when you just accept what’s coming your way.”
Asked about her dating style, McAdams says she’s not afraid to put herself out there.
“I’m not shy,” she says. “But I feel like I give off more confidence than I really have. I get in trouble for being overly friendly at times.”
As for having children one day, McAdams says she’s waiting for the right time.
“Part of me is very attached to the idea of having children,” she says, but adds that “it’ll depend on if I find the person I want to do that with.”

Talk about power pairing! The gorgeous Rachel McAdams, 31, and hunky Channing Tatum, 30, are set to team up in August on the heartbreaking and uplifting true story The Vow.
Based on the real-life saga of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, as told in the same-titled book, the plot takes off after the couple is hit from behind by a fast-moving truck and Krickett is left in a coma. Upon waking she has no memory of her new husband, so the pair must rebuild their relationship from scratch.
Channing is currently shooting the Ron Howard film Cheaters with Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Connelly and Winona Ryder in Chicago. McAdams is set to begin filming the Woody Allen flick Midnight in Paris with Adrien Brody next month.

Rachel McAdams is in negotiations to star opposite Owen Wilson and Marion Cotillard in Woody Allen’s untitled movie scheduled to shoot in the summer.
As with most Allen movies, plot details are being kept under wraps, though the setting for the ensemble is France. Spain’s Mediapro is financing and plans to sell the movie in Cannes.
McAdams’ boarding comes on the heels of Allen’s latest movie, the London-set “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger,” being acquired by Sony Pictures Classics. “Stranger” also was financed by Mediapro.
McAdams is coming off the success of “Sherlock Holmes” and has on her docket Terrence Malick’s untitled movie project, in which she will co-star with Christian Bale, Javier Bardem and Olga Kurylenko. The movie shoots this year.
The actress, repped by UTA and Magnolia Entertainment, next appears with Harrison Ford in the J.J. Abrams-produced “Morning Glory,” which Paramount releases Oct. 28.
